Dismiss Quinton De Kock and Hashim Amla early

The best way to restrict the opposition is to take early wickets rather than just looking to contain the flow of runs. South Africa have the best opening pair in the world in Quinton De Kock and Hashim Amla, who come hard at the opposition bowlers rights from the start.

It is vital that India pick early wickets to stem the run rate as South Africa has the depth in batting to make India pay in the latter stages of the innings. India has to set attacking fields to dismiss the openers, rather than relying on mistakes from them in the face of tight bowling.

Convert half chances and improve ground fielding

After their win over Pakistan, Kohli said that they merited just 6 out of 10 for their fielding efforts. Identifying a problem is half the battle won and now they have to rectify their mistakes and put in a better effort in the field.

In the first two matches, there were quite a few mistakes in their ground fielding and they also grassed a few relatively simple chances. They need to convert all the half chances that come their way and revert to their usual high standards if they are to progress further in the tournament.
