Things Satya Nadella Changed In His Two Years At Microsoft

"Be passionate and bold. Always keep learning. You stop doing useful things if you don't learn."

If someone were to point at that little kid in Ananthpur in Andhra Pradesh and proclaim that he would be leading one of the biggest companies on the planet, we would just laugh it off. What a ludicrous thing to say, after all!

But it did happen. Completing his bachelors from India's MIT - Manipal Institute of Technology, he left for the United States to complete his MS from the University of Wisconsin and his MBA from the University of Chicago. After a stint at Sun Microsystems, he finally joined the place he was destined to lead, Microsoft. And the rest, as they say, is history.

    Nadella's story in brief

Satya Narayana Nadella's story is definitely one to envy, especially for those who like dreaming big. Working up the ranks in Microsoft, Nadella's vision made him lead a number of projects on cloud computing before becoming the Vice President of R&D (Research and Development) for their services division. You wouldn't be going over the top if you were to say that he was the man responsible for changing Microsoft's focus to cloud infrastructure and its services - the future.

    The Beginning

On February 4th, 2014, he became Microsoft's third CEO. Hardly a surprise, knowing the success he'd achieved in his years of service there. The date also marked a change in the way Microsoft would work.

Two years down the line, a number of notable changes have been brought about in the company, its way of approaching things, its services, and how it deals with partners and customers.

    1. Evolution of company culture

Nadella's appointment was the first step taken in the evolution of the company culture. He modernised the engineering approach and introduced new ways to engage with employees. Microsoft now had to be customer-obsessed, partner-centric, work efficiently, faster and of course, more innovatively.

    2. Office for iPad

A huge step forward and something fans on multiple platforms had been practically dying for. Opening up to their vision of a mobile-first, cloud-first world premise, Microsoft was now embracing multiple platforms. They were finally willing to look beyond Windows.
